Contacts
I am a member of many different social networks, so it is probably best for you to contact me through there as you may find even more about me on some of them. Otherwise you can always get me on Windows Live Messenger or email me at nick.wilkes@nickwilkes.co.uk.
Facebook.com – Social Networking
Facebook.com has grew huge over the last 12 months, and for me has become the number one social networking site. Easy to understand, find people and generally having a laugh. I have been able to find and contact people I had lost contact with, and it is nice to see how successful some old friends have become.
Flickr – Photo sharing
One of my modern day favourites for sharing and storing images, this powerful application
has easy functionality and is really inviting. Now that I have a Pro account, there are no restrictions and it is fantastic.
For free accounts there are a few restrictions, but this is more than enough, especially with all the interfacing applications available.
Highly recommend this one!
last.fm – Music profile sharing
I quote, "the social music revolution". It's not a far off quote!
Last.fm stores/creates a user's musical profile to make personalised recommendations,
connect users who share similar tastes, provide custom radio streams, and much more...
You can download a small application which runs parallel with applications such as
iTunes, Windows Media Player etc to gather information on your
music played over a period of a week. It shows many forms of charts, statistics and musical information.
Again this also has shared network capabilities.
Threadless – t-shirts
Dean has once again introduced me to a site.
This time a cool place for buying t-shirts.
I was rather fortunate as my first purchase was the rare Haikus are easy but.
Very good service, just remember to link through me!
del.icio.us – Bookmark sharing
A comprehensive network for freely storing and sharing your bookmarks.
Helps a lot if you are forever formatting your computer and forget to save those important bookmarks!
It allows you to organise your bookmarks through 'tags' and 'bundles', which you can share or keep private.
Above all, what a great domain name!
eBay – Online Auctions – Nick_Wilkes
We all know about eBay, or should do by now. The online-auction site, where you can sell
pretty much anything... and believe you me, I have!
I have sold anything from socks to household appliances, rubber chickens to sports equipment.
Have a look to see if I am currently selling anything interesting... you might be surprised.
Faceparty – Social Networking
Faceparty allows you to keep a personal profile, which you can share with the world! You can search for other users, contact them and generally socialise and mingle with many different people.
WAYN – Social Networking
WAYN - Where are you now, is an online community for keeping in touch with friends and family. It is particularly good with searching for people from previous schools, universities, places of interest etc. Sometimes a little too confusing and restrictive(as it encourages you to pay subscription fees) but overall the basic free functionality is enough to find lost friends and keep in touch.
MySpace – Social Networking
MySpace, well as you will tell by looking on my profile, there isn't much there.
The site seems to be good for the music industry, of which I'm not a part of so find it rather annoying.
If you have little web design knowledge then there are a lot of tools/features which allow you to sell yourself and your interests,
but that is often the problem. People don't know how to design web pages and make a mess of over-using the features available!
